Kjør Whistler / XP med mindre RAM

Her er en rettledning for alle som vil kutte RAM-forbruket til Windows Whistler / XP.

Signaturen ^^Matt^^ på EFNet har lagt ut en liste med gode tips for den som ønsker å kjøre Windows Whistler/XP Build 2428, men ikke har så mye RAM å ta av.

Han skriver at Whistler spiser mye unødvendig minne, og at triksene han foreslår vil redusere RAM-behovet med mellom 25 og 30 MB.

Det advares herved om at digitoday ikke har testet triksene, og at all eksperimentering skjer på eget ansvar - men har du peiling, kan det være en idé å prøve ut.

1) Gå til Start -> Control Panel -> Performance And Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Services

DHCP Client - Manages network configuration by registering and updating IP addresses and DNS names. Disabled, Local System - Do not disable if you use automatic IP assignment via DHCP

Event Log - Logs event messages issued by programs and Windows. Event Log reports contain information that can be useful in diagnosing problems. Reports are viewed in Event Viewer. Disabled, Local System

Human Interface Device Access - Provides generic input access to Human Interface Devices. Disabled,Local System

Messenger - Sends and receives messages transmitted by administrators or by the Alerter service. Disabled,Local Service

Portable media serial number - Retrieves the serial number of any portable music player connected to your computer. Disabled, Local System

Remote Registry - Allows remote registry manipulation. Disabled, Local Service

Routing and Remote Access - Offers routing services to businesses in local area and wide area network environments. Disabled, Local System

Secondary Logon - Allows users to run under an alternate set of credentials. Disabled, Local System

SSDP Discovery Service - Enables discovery of UPnP devices on your home network. Disabled, Local Service

Terminal Services - Provides a multisession environment that allows client devices to access a virtual Windows 2000 Professional desktop session and Windows-based programs running on the server. Disabled, Local System
